Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure

As a Senior Software Engineer at TRM Labs, you will collaborate with an experienced team of data scientists, engineers, and product managers to design and build scalable infrastructure for TRM's products and services. You will be deeply involved in the technical details of building highly available infrastructure and ultimately work to build a safer financial system for billions of people.







The impact you’ll have here:

- Developing software and tooling to facilitate greater automation, support, maintenance, and operability of services.
- Use data to understand the availability, reliability, and sustainability of our infrastructure.
- Actively engage in systems hardening and compliance (e.g., SOC2, FedRAMP).
- Work with product and engineering leadership to set strategy, priorities, and mission for the Infrastructure team.

What we’re looking for:

- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related field
- 3+ years of experience in a role working with AWS and/or GCP IaaS services eg. compute, object storage, iam, vpc, load balancing. Experience with Airflow, GKE, EKS, Big Query, is a plus.
- Highly proficient with modern Unix/Linux operating systems/distributions, preferably CentOS & Alpine
- Experience with CI/CD, containers and/or virtualization, web servers, and databases.
- Experience defining SLOs/SLIs and implementing monitoring, alerting, and runbooks.






- Experience with Terraform, Airflow, GKE, EKS, Kubernetes and BigQuery.

About the Team:

- The team works asynchronously but very closely with many different stakeholders in other teams who use the infrastructure and run their workloads on different parts of the infrastructure.
- Like other teams at TRM,





the infrastructure team collaborates asynchronously for project designs and plans by sharing them ahead of time and then independently driving the planning and execution of the projects.
- The team operates in weekly sprints for projects.
- All on-call issues that happen during that week also get tagged and prioritized for immediate resolution or as project work that needs to be planned.
- The team is currently split across US PT, CT, and ET time zones.

Oncall: The team currently has a team on-call rotation which lasts a week. We have high internal stakeholder requests during business hours for the on-call week. The main on-call work has been to act as the infra SME for cloud, k8s, and other pieces of infra stack.





The infrastructure is stable enough that we do not have late-night pages going off regularly.

About TRM's Engineering Levels:

Engineer: Responsible for helping to define project milestones and executing small decisions independently with the appropriate tradeoffs between simplicity, readability, and performance. Provides mentorship to junior engineers, and enhances operational excellence through tech debt reduction and knowledge sharing.

Senior Engineer: Successfully designs and documents system improvements and features for an OKR/project from the ground up. Consistently delivers efficient and reusable systems, optimizes team throughput with appropriate tradeoffs, mentors team members, and enhances cross-team collaboration through documentation and knowledge sharing.

Staff Engineer:





Drives scoping and execution of one or more OKRs/projects that impact multiple teams. Partners with stakeholders to set the team vision and technical roadmaps for one or more products. Is a role model and mentor to the entire engineering organization. Ensures system health and quality with operational reviews, testing strategies, and monitoring rigor.
